CODE OF CONDUCT AND DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURE
CONDUCT GUIDELINES
Edge Golf Championships (EGC) takes immense pride in the quality of its participants, host facilities and broad community involvement at each Championship. To continue making these Championships enjoyable for everyone, all participants are required to adhere to the EGC Code of Conduct. The following principles guide good practice for everyone involved in the Championships.
Players and other team members, such as coaches, team managers, advice givers, caddies or parents, must always conduct themselves to the highest standards of behaviour and ethical conduct. They must act in the best interests of the EGC and its sponsors, the club, and the game of golf. Players and other team members participating in EGCs should always follow the principles of the Championships - honesty, good sporting conduct, and courtesy, whether on or off the golf course.
Determining the exact standard of behaviour expected from players or other team members in Edge Golf Championships is impossible. It is also impossible to list all the acts violating the standard of behaviour. In most cases, common sense should tell the player or other team member the required standard of behaviour. Anyone who is in doubt about the behaviour that is expected of them should contact the Championships Committee at the event for guidance.
In most circumstances, the following examples of acts, omissions and negligence will be considered to be contrary to the Code of Conduct and will result in disciplinary action, including invoicing for replacement articles if these have been damaged/broken. This list is not exhaustive:
- Failure to comply with commonly accepted standards of sporting behaviour, dress code and spirit of the game at all times.
- Acting in a way that will hurt the Championships, another player, or the Championships management.
- Consumption of alcoholic beverages by players under the age of eighteen at the place of competition.
- Disrespectful criticism of the course, sponsors, rules officials, volunteers, or the Championships Committee. Any complaints must be addressed to the Championships Committee only.
- Failure to comply or cooperate with the Championships Committee‘s investigation of an offence.
- Improper behaviour on the course.
- Abuse of clubs or the course
- Throwing and/or breaking clubs
- De-facing of damaging on-course signage
- Damaging course equipment, tee markers, flagsticks, rakes, etc
- Not taking good care of the course - for example, by not replacing divots, smoothing bunkers, repairing ball marks, pulling trolleys onto or across teeing grounds, and causing unnecessary damage to the course.
- Use of foul and/or abusive language (said in any language).
- Misuse of Social Media
- Publicly using Social Media to be critical or disrespectful of others or Edge Golf Championship (or its partners and stakeholders)
- Excessive use of Social Media during the round
- Any behaviour viewed as unethical in the opinion of the Championships Committee.
- Failure to control temper anywhere within the official Championships area (clubhouse, golf course, practice facilities, hotel, transfer vehicles, etc.).
- Failure to attend a prize-giving ceremony. In an individual Championship, players receiving prizes must be present at the award ceremony unless otherwise permitted by the Championships Committee.
Rules officials, golf course/club staff, and fellow competitors have the right to report a breach of conduct. The decision rests with the Championships Committee.
DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURE AND SANCTIONS
When a player or other team member in an Edge Golf Championship is believed to have violated the Code of Conduct or the Rules of Golf, and the offence can result in sanctions, the Championships Committee shall investigate. The investigation may include an interview with the subject person, his opponent, fellow competitors, marker, Referee, and others who have witnessed the offence when the round is completed.
If the investigation indicates that a violation has occurred, the Championships Committee can take the following actions:
(a) Give a verbal reprimand/warning/general penalty; or
(b) Disqualify a player under Rule 1.2a.
Serious breach of the Code of Conduct or the Rules of Golf
According to Golf Rule 1.2a, a player can be disqualified in the Championship where serious misconduct has occurred. A player has committed a serious misconduct if they:
- physically attack or abuse, in any way, a player, an official or other person;
- verbally threaten or abuse a player, an official or other person;
- wrongfully damage the facilities, including the course and the clubhouse
- wrongfully remove or damage property;
- deliberately break a Rule (as defined in the Rules of Golf and Local Rules);
- deliberately return a false scorecard.
In all cases of violations, the Chairman of the Championships Committee shall inform the Edge Golf Championships Committee of the disqualification of or misconduct of a player or team member. The Championships Committee shall furthermore have the authority to:
(a) take no further action;
(b) refer the incident to the player's or team's national federation;
(c) exclude the player or team from participating in one to several Championships where the player or team was otherwise eligible to participate.
Any player who has received disciplinary action against them will have their Order of Merit points revoked for the current season. A probation period may be required before inclusion in any future Order of Merit. This will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
The Championships Committee will take action or impose any penalty, where applicable. The decision of the Championships Committee is final.
